Margaret Parks, Gene Meredith, Judy Williams, and Judith Drennan were hostesses for September 15 meeting of the Okemah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah.
Regent Velda Jo Bradley reported that the Okemah Chapter was well represented at the Oklahoma DAR State Workshop held in Tulsa at the Double Tree Hotel in August by six members, Sherry Case, Joy Hlavaty, Ann Jackson, Kay Cook, Rebecca Hold, and herself.  The workshop was very informative, and she was presented with two certificates for the chapter: one for distinguished community service and the other for outstanding accomplishments on our chapter achievement report.
September 17 – 23 is Constitution Week and Margaret Parks, assisted by her daughter, Jenny Cody-Knopp, gave a most interesting program on the signing of the Constitution.   Jenny is descended from the youngest signer of the Constitution, Jonathan Dayton (1760-1824), who was 26 when he signed the document, and the city of Dayton, Ohio, was named for him. The Constitution was greatly influenced by George Washington and is the most famous legal document ever written.  Many other countries pattern their constitution from the United States Constitution.
Members present were Sheldon Starr, Rebecca Hold, Geneva Bertges, Mary June Cashman, Theo Crawley, Virginia Sharpe, Carolyn McDaniel, Linda Hampton, Vice-Regent Ann Jackson, and Regent Velda Bradley; prospective members Patricia Funchess and Jenny Cody-Knopp; guests Pam Ferrell, George Knopp and Glenn Sharpe; and hostesses Margaret Parks, Gene Meredith, Judy Williams, and Judith Drennan.
The next meeting will be hosted by Velda Jo Bradley October 20, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah.  The program, “Diversity within DAR,” will be presented by Judith Drennan.
