Events at football games last week has Henryetta school officials working on increased security plans for sporting events.
Henryetta superintendent Dwayne Noble said there will be more security at the game Friday night to prevent a similar tragedy.
He said school officials at all Okmulgee County schools have been in contact together to develop a uniform security plan. “That way people know there will security systems in place for all local schools,”
Noble said a security plan will probably be on the agenda for Henryetta school board members to review and possibly approve at the September 11 board meeting.

The seventh annual Butch Sullivan Horseshoe Tournament starts Sunday. Organizer Lester Sullivan talks about how the event started and has grown to include some state champion players participating.

The joy of reading is going to continue for another year for Karsen Paschal and Harper Tecumseh-Sands now that the Henryetta public library summer reading program has officially drawn to a close. The two had their names drawn this week for subscriptions to National Geographic. Paschal is a seventh grader in Henryetta and will be adding the National Geographic magazine to his collection at home. Tecumseh-Sands is in the second grade and will be receiving the National Geographic for Kids.

The quarterly Feed the Vets program from the Henryetta VFW will be held Sept. 8 at the New Life Assembly of God which is located at 1201 S C Street in Henryetta.
Food distribution will start at 11 a.m. and anyone wishing to help should be at the church by 10 a.m.

 The bean bags will be flying this Labor Day as the Jared Been memorial Lions Club cornhole tournament gets underway. Lions Club member and tournament co-organizer Billie Been talks about the tournament and how it started.
