American Exchange Bank (AEB) in Henryetta, Oklahoma, has a storied history of resilience and commitment to its community. Founded in the midst of the Great Depression—the largest economic crisis in U.S. history—AEB emerged as a beacon of hope when the Henryetta district faced severe financial challenges between 1923 and 1933. During this time, outside capital was hesitant to invest in the area. In a bold move to restore financial stability and confidence, 51 local citizens invested in AEB in September 1933, paving the way for its reorganization.
Over nearly nine decades, AEB has weathered twelve recessions, maintaining its identity as a steadfast community bank without any branches. However, in July 2020, AEB expanded its reach by opening a carefully planned de novo branch in Okemah, Oklahoma. Remarkably, this new location thrived despite launching during an unforeseen pandemic, showcasing AEB’s enduring strength and adaptability.
Throughout its history, AEB’s business model has remained consistent. As a small community bank, it has always prioritized quality customer service, focusing on understanding and meeting the unique needs of its customers. This unwavering commitment to personalized service has solidified AEB’s reputation as a trusted financial partner in Henryetta and beyond.
