Firemen from Plainview and Wilson joined with Henryetta firefighters Monday afternoon to extinguish a blaze west of town.
brush fireThe fire was believed to have started when embers from a trash fire were carried by the wind. The sparks drifted across Hornbeam Road igniting some of the dry grass along the pavement.
"We have the combination of low humidity and gusty winds that make it dangerous to burn," said fire chief David Bullard.
He cautioned everyone that the high fire danger is going to exist throughout most of the week. A cool front is expected to bring rain with it Friday and Saturday.
Bullard went on to say that vegitation throughout the area has grown thicker during the past two years because of past rains. That has resulted in a perfect place for fires to spread.
