Basketball season opened on a sweet and sour note for the Henryetta cagers Tuesday night.
The sweet came when the Knights powered their way to a 64-35 win over Savanna. The sour note started with a 78-17 loss handed to the Lady Knights.
hhs savanna gIn the opening game, both teams started out slow and it appeared the Henryetta girls would be able to keep up with the visiting Lady Dawgs from Savanna.
Bridget Williams provided the lone basket in the opening frame. She would finish the night with nine points and be the top scorer for Henryetta.
In the second quarter, Savanna's girls found the range picking up 34 points compared with only four coming from Henryetta.
That trend continued in the second half with Savanna leading 57-8 at the end of the third.
The lone senior on the HHS team, Addison Ellis, had five points while Kimberly Hage added two and Kaitlyn Clark picked up one of her four free throw shots.
hhs savanna bLike the girls' game, the HHS boys started slow int he first quarter. Henryetta led 15-12 but powered on from there to win.
Riley Berry was the mainstay for Henryetta, piling up 31 points during the evening. He hit the majority of them in the first and third quarters.
Returner Kalil Lewis punched in four three-point goals for 13 points during the evening.
Darious Tiger had eight while Avery Moore picked up five, Ryder Hudson added three and Pepper Logan and Jarrett Day each added two.
Henryetta will be hosting Okemah Friday night then traveling to Morris Saturday.
