Even though the Henryetta high school swim program is two years old, the Knights are getting noticed.
nadineTuesday HHS swim coach Nadine Graham told Lions club members four state medals were won this past weekend. "We have built a name for the Henryetta team and Henryetta."
Graham said the four medals were won by Charee and Caprice Graham with enough points that HHS finished the season in 14th place. "We beat out some of the teams who have relay members," she said.
This year the HHS team consisted of the Graham sisters as well as Jennifer Denton and Dustin Crawford.
She explained the students travel to the Jenks Aquatic Center which means they put in long hours. "Being on the team is not just being an athlete," she said. "I ask my athletes be good in school and community activities as well."
Graham said she would like to get more students interested so a relay team could be formed as well.
"When you have a relay team, you get double points. That's how we drop off."
Swimmers can only compete in two individual events but, if there were enough for a relay team, that would add those points to the overall standings.
