A new look at the Easter story will be portrayed at the Henryetta Nazarene Church Friday and Sunday.
The Henryetta First Church of the Nazarene, 718 W. Trudgeon, has been busy since the first of February putting together a community Easter drama and musical portraying Christ’s healing.
The story is about Malchus, a trusted servant of the high priest, who has his ear severed during Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. With one touch, Jesus restores his ear, and Malchus hatred and mistrust of Jesus disappears. naz churchAs the story unfolds, Malchus comes to accept Jesus as the Messiah. His Gentle Touch tells the Easter story in a fresh way, showing that ultimately all must choose whether or not to follow the Savior.
Rhnea Stoy, Drama Director said, "His Gentle Touch” is a wonderful story of Christ’s love and forgiveness. "It touches our hearts to see how through this event Jesus demonstrated such grace and gentleness in the face of what he knew was about to happen," she said. "This cast and crew have worked so hard to bring this Easter drama to the Henryetta community. It is our prayer that it blesses others as it has blessed us.”
The cast members of the play are: Malchus-Richard Thomas, Elizabeth-Sheila Williams, Eunice-Joy Williamson, Enos-Billy Robertson, Adam-Bo Morgan, Iris-Linda Dixon, Tabitha-Crista Stoy and Gideon-Zach Thomas. Crew members are: Prompter-Charlene Hicks and Valerie Elston, Set Construction-Jim Stoy and Tim Williams, Art Work-Eddy Thomas, Sound-Larry Pitts, Lighting Patty Vanmeter, Spotlight-Jonathan Petruska, Hand props-Joy Williamson, Back stage direction-Hannah Bowman.
The HCN Choir will complement the drama with five musical selections along with solos by Donna Whitworth, Sammy Johnson, and Tom Rush. The drama will be presented to the community this Friday night at the church beginning at 7 p.m. and Easter Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
The church-sponsored Community Easter egg hunt will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Nichols Park South Pavilion. The event will include tasty candy eggs and prize eggs, an Easter devotion, a simple hot dog lunch and an inflatable. All are welcome-bring the entire family to all events.
