Two area fatalities marred the holiday weekend this year.
A Checotah man died in an auto accident and a McAleser man drowned in a jet ski mishap on Lake Eufaula.
The crash that claimed the life of John Tanner, 52, Checotah, happened a mile south of Checotah on Interstate 40 Saturday around 7:30 Saturday evening.
The OHP said he missed the curve on the US 69 ramp then went off the roadway and rolled his 1993 GMC Suburban. He was thrown from his vehicle.
The drowning took place about six miles north of Enterprise when a jet ski overturned throwing Michael Waldo, 45, and an eight year old girl into the water.
Waldo kept the child above water until a person on a Sea Doo was able to pick her up. Waldo was said to have disappeared under the water and did not resurface.
His body was recovered a short time later by OHP divers.
The OHP said neither Waldo nor the child were wearing personal flotation devices.
