Two State Questions that will be on the November ballot are going to be discussed at the Okmulgee County republican party meeting Aug. 9.
The questions, SQ 776 and SQ 777, will be covered by Estela Hernandez from the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA).
estella hernandez"These questions are important to both parties and we are inviting county democrats to join with us," said Marsheila Prior, republican party Chair.
The meeting will be held at the OSUIT Student Union in Okmulgee starting at 7 p.m.
State Question 776 will add a new section to the state Constitution dealing with the death penalty.
Opponents say the law would open the state to further costly legal challenges. Those in favor of the bill claim it would protect the state's ability to enforce capital punishment.
State Question 777 is known as the "Right to Farm" bill. Backers of the bill say it will prevent legislation not friendly to agriculture and give incentives to continued development and research. Bill opponents say it would take away the ability of state and city governments to regulate agriculture practices and would protect corporate farming and ranching.
The OCPA was founded in 1993 as a public policy research organization focused primarily on state-level issues.
