James J. Packwood, Okemah, died Feb. 9, 2015 at the age of 96. He was born to John Henry and Mollie Parlie (Eaton) Packwood on May 13, 1918 at Indianola,
J.J. grew up in and around Indianola, Pharoah, Sapulpa and Okmulgee. He married Blanche Addlene Snow on August 6, 1936 at Henryetta. To the union 4 children were born. They made their home at Morris and then Mountain Grove before settling in Okemah around 1948. He spent a lifetime in the oilfield as a pumper, retiring at age 83, and was also a lifelong rancher.
He was a member of the Nazarene Church's in both Okemah and Henryetta, working with the youth in Henryetta and serving as Sunday School Superintendent at both. He had last attended Skyview Baptist Church before moving to Walters, in January, 2011 to be near his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche; three children, Johnny, Jerry and Jackie Delton Packwood; and three siblings, Sid Packwood, Josey Woods and William Packwood.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jan Jennette and Bob Johnson of Walters; a sister, Edith Kiesling of Tulsa; five grandchildren and spouses, Diana and Jack Armitage of Calera, Sandra and Jeff Simpson of Walters, Bobby Johnson of Sterling, Doug Packwood and Dave Packwood both of California; three great grandchildren, Jeffrey Simpson, Tony Simpson, Sara Nuncio; three great-great grandchildren, Lane Simpson, Paisley Simpson and Gatlin Simpson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Skyview Baptist Church in Okemah, Friday, February 13 at 2 p.m., Rev. Ark Noel officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK. Interment to follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Henryetta.
