Usually when a policeman pulls drivers over, it’s bad news.
Thursday several Henryetta families received a happier Christmas instead of a ticket.
cop moneyPolice chief Steve Norman had his officers delivering cash instead of tickets courtesy of an anonymous donor.
“We had a person come by the police department Wednesday with some envelopes filled with cash,” Norman said. “They wanted us to make sure that some people were able to buy gifts for their children and make the holiday merrier.”
To make it happen, police officers Joey Cantrell and Doug Kossakowski caught up with some parents picking up their children after school. When they went to the cars, instead of a ticket book, they carried an envelope with cash in it.
“There was one driver who went from upset to complete amazement,” said Kossakowski.
“I had a dad who was upset that he got pulled over but when I gave him the money, his eyes teared up,” added Martin.
“This is a great thing for Henryetta,” Norman said. “Usually you hear about this in the big city but, to have it happen in Henryetta, it’s wonderful.”
The spreading of joy was not just restricted to the drivers. Earlier in the day, Santa Claus made a couple of visits to individuals also passing out some money.
