Dewar FCCLA will be having “Fitness Fridays" every Friday for the spring semester.
The Fridays are designed to not only educate the students about nutrition but to also motivate them to exercise.
Each class period the students will be watching a video series on basic nutritional information followed by a one-mile walk around the school campus.
According to the Dewar FCCLA Advisor, Andrea Brice, “Fitness Friday has been a success. The students enjoy the information and enjoy the time they spend exercising together. Fitness Friday has really opened the door to many discussions about exercise. The students really look forward to Fitness Friday. It has even become a hashtag on social media."
Since FCCLA offers national recognition to chapters who complete the Student Body projects, Dewar FCCLA will be applying for the award this week. This honor includes cash awards and special recognition at the national leadership conference, online and in Teen Times magazine. Wish Dewar FCCLA luck by adding them on Facebook, Instagram or twitter and commenting on their many #FitnessFriday posts!
The FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) Student Body national peer education program helps young people learn to eat right, be fit and make healthy choices. Its goals are to: help young people make informed, responsible decisions about their health, provide youth opportunities to teach others, and develop healthy lifestyles, as well as communication and leadership skills!
"The teen years are an ideal time to establish healthy attitudes and habits to last a lifetime. Unfortunately, many of our youth are not physically fit, have poor eating habits and are often bothered by a lack of self-esteem. Student Body gives teens the facts and incentives they need to build a healthy body, both today and in the future," she said.
