Robert Doyle Akins Sr., a resident of Houston, died Jan. 1, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born Dec. 16, 1933 in McCurtain, Okla., to Richard Daniel and Minnie Eliza (Walker) Akins.
Robert served in the United States Navy and fought in the Korean War. He worked as an insurance agent for Trans America Life for many years, was a life-long musician, and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Minnie Akins, daughter and son in law Fred and Dina Thompson, his brother and sister in law Glenn and Theresa Akins, brothers Bill and Don Akins.
He is survived by his children: Rebecca Dee Akins of Houston; Robbie and James Blades of Henryetta, Robert Doyle Akins Jr. of Henryetta, Sammy, and wife, Dana Akins of Pearland, Tex.; sister, Verlene Orum of Henryetta; brothers Jerry, and wife, Kay Akins of Cushing, Jimmy, and wife, Debbie Akins of Jenks; grandchildren: Amanda and Whitney Weimer, Jennifer Weaver, Cody and Kimberly Blades, Alysha Spangler, Wesley Akins, Austin Akins and Travis Akins. His great grandchildren are Taylor Hodge, Kenadi Tyrrell, and Crew Blades.
Visitation with family present to greet friends will be on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be held at Integrity Funeral Home in Henryetta Saturday January 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow the service at Silome Springs Cemetery in McCurtain.
