A year of waiting comes to an end Feb. 1 when members of the Henryetta Girl Scout Troop 466 start making the rounds selling cookies.
cookiesAccording to troop leader Tammy Smith, the girls will be adding another box of goodies to their arsenal when S’mores will be joining the lineup. That new flavor will be marking the 100th anniversary of the first known cookie sale fundraiser. Those cookies started in Muskogee when the Mistletoe Troop baked them and sold them in the high school cafeteria in 1917.
Since then, the sales have become a well-recognized part of the Girl Scout program.
The standard flavors include: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwiches Do-Si-Dos, Toffee-tastic and Shortbreads. The s’mores flavor was inspired by the graham cracker filled with marshmallow and chocolate. girl scout logo
