Several Okmulgee County stores that sell alcohol or 3.2 beer were tested this past week to see if they would comply with state laws on selling to minors.
According to the OSU Prevention Program, 30 stores were visited by state officials who watched as a minor attempted to purchase alcohol or beer. Of the 30, three convenience stores sold beer to the youth in the presence of an undercover officer. Another alcohol vendor served liquor.
“Adults within Okmulgee County, including alcohol vendors, need to set a clear precedent that alcohol use by minors will not be accepted,” said coordinator Aaron Graffman. “By not allowing youth to have alcohol, it is helping to prevent addiction and other substance abuse issues.”
