During this past week Okmulgee county fire departments responded to at least eight wildfires. Due to the warmer than average temperatures, dormant vegetation, windy conditions and the continued threat of wildfire poses to the citizens of the county, Okmulgee County Commissioners have again issue a seven-day Burn Ban for the entire county beginning today.
Under this burn ban it is unlawful for any person to set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop, or other wildlands, or to build a campfire or bonfire, or to burn trash or other materials that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other wildlands fire.
Any person convicted of violating this burn during a ban is subject a fine of not more than $500, to imprisonment for not more than one year imprisonment or to both fine and imprisonment.
Even a small spark can turn into a massive life threating wildfire.
