The Knights chalked up their first win of the baseball season Friday with a 1-0 win over the Weleetka Outlaws.
out at homeThat victory almost didn’t happen but an out at home plate by HHS catcher Jared Montgomery closed out the contest.
Henryetta scored in the third inning when Munoz and Welch walked then Thomas got on with an error. A walk by Lewis sent Munoz across home.
No more scores were posted by either team then in the top of the seventh the Outlaws put one on with a walk then a a third strike loose ball sent Weleetka’s Jordan to first. A wild throw turned what could have been an easy out into a two-bagger and put the tying run on third.
With a 1-2 count, Brown tried to steal home but Montgomery cut him off with inches to spare for the out.
Henryetta only had two hits during the game but the HHS pitching by Thomas was invaluable.
He struck out 16 batters and gave up four walks.
Henryetta’s batters struck out two times but hit five into the outfield that wound up being caught at the last minute.
The Knights go to Beggs Monday then host Dewar next Friday. They will be meeting up with the Outlaws again March 14.
