Sheldon Starr and Ann Jackson were hostesses for the March 21 meeting of the Okemah chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah.
dar logoIn the absence of Regent Velda Jo Bradley, Vice-Regent Rebecca Hold presided over the meeting. After the opening ritual, Susan Barnett, who had the program for the day, introduced her guest, the very talented Sandra Turner Peters, retired music professor at Bacone College and former Creek Council member.
Mrs. Peters presented a wonderful program depicting old stories told to her by her grandfather accompanied by lovely songs sung in her beautiful contralto voice. The old songs were so moving to the members in the audience that many could not resist singing along with her.
It was announced during the business meeting that Regent Velda Jo Bradley, Vice-Regent Rebecca Hold, Treasurer Sherrie Case, and Joy Hlavaty will be attending the Oklahoma DAR State Conference held in Norman, OK, on April 20-22, with Velda Jo Bradley and Rebecca Hold being the voting delegates.
Also Regent Bradley and Vice Regent Hold will represent the chapter as voting delegates at the DAR Continental Congress in Washington, DC, in June.
The next meeting will be hosted by Dorothy Burden and Susan Barnett on April 18, at 11:30 a.m. at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah with Sheldon Starr presenting the program.
