Henryetta administrators and school board members were all smiles after they did the math on the vote count Tuesday night. A watch party was held at the elementary cafeteria with a number of teachers and support personnel on hand to see the results.
"Our students are going to have a great new education future." That was the statement by Henryetta superintendent Dwayne Noble following passage of the $9.1 million bond issue Tuesday night.
Henryetta voters approved the bond program by 64.4 percent of the vote with 397 ballots for the issue and 219 against it.
"Now the real work begins," Noble said. He pointed out teachers have to be trained in the latest advancements in science, engineering and math. That training will take place at Oklahoma State University this summer.
The school financial advisor said construction of two new buildings will start later this year and school officials will be starting the purchasing of new computers and other supplies.
Also to get attention from some of the money will be repairs to both the high school and elementary school roofs.
Voters approved the bond proposal in five of the six Henryetta precincts.
While Henryetta educators were watching the hometown race, Okmulgee school leaders were also smiling.
That school district passed two propositions by 61.9 percent and 64.2 percent.
