A century of banking is going to be celebrated Thursday by First National Bank and Trust.
The bank was originally founded April 2, 1917 in Okmulgee. Among the charter members were Oklahoma oilman and philanthropist Waite Phillips and William Pine, the first republican US senator from the state.first outside
Bank chairman Fred Harlan points out the bank was, “one of the few banks that survived the Great Depression without failing.
The bank has been continuing the vision of providing financial services to the community members for the betterment of families and the communities as a whole.
Harlan said a number of stockholders and charter members have descendants who are still involved in the bank today.
First National was the first bank in Oklahoma to open a branch in 1917. In 1991, First National opened a branch in the Okmulgee Walmart Super Center then purchased the Henryetta First National Bank in 204 and Wewoka in 2014.
