By this time next year Henryetta should have a new water tank on the hill east of town.
At a special meeting Monday, council members selected DN Tanks from Wakefield Mass., to build the million-gallon water storage tank.
The new structure will be a pre-stressed concrete tank replacing a steel storage tank that has been inoperative for over two years. An inspection of the old tank revealed rusted supports and problems with the roof.water tank
The cost of the new storage tank is going to be $1,189,485. The city has received a CDBG grant for $450,000 and another IHS grant for $200,000. That will leave the city footing the bill for $460,515.
Construciton engineeer Bill Myers told the council city crews will be removing much of the existing valves and pipes saving the town between $80,000 and $100,000.
He said the contract calls for DN Tanks for demolish the existing metal tank structure then law in new water lines and start the actual work. The contract calls for an eight-month construction time.
The new storage tank will be a pre-stressed concrete structure that will be pre-cast on site. Once the tank is set in place, a concrete roof will be poured.
At the same time, the council authorized Myers Engineering to be the project engineer for the work.
“This is the oversight that we didn’t have on the water plant,” said Jennifer Clason.
Also at the special meeting, the council approved a contract with Gray Boys to mow city parks and property. That bid came in at $305. “It seems awful low,” said council member Janna Duggan. “They said they wanted to spend more time with the community than make money,” Clason said. “They just ant to break even,” said code enforcement officer Jody Agee. “I worked with them before and they did good work.”
Council members gave a bid to Josh Nichols Lawn and Trash Service for $35 per lot to cut property around town that the property owners fail to cut.
