Over a year of construction will be officially finished Thursday morning when the Henryetta STEM building is opened.

The $3 million facility will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. according to Henryetta school superintendent Dwayne Noble.
He said the 2017 senior class will be the guests of honor for the opening ceremony. “We will have the band and choir there and the public is invited to attend,” Noble said. “This is the end of a three-year effort.” Also expected to be on hand will be representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Education as well as Project Lead The Way. That group is a nation-wide organization that works with students from kindergarten through high school in science and engineering.
Community residents and civic officials are also invited to be a part of the ceremonies.
The street in front of the building will be blocked off for the ribbon cutting. Once the doors are officially opened, students and visitors will be able to tour the 10,000 square-foot building.
Inside will be three computer labs, a chemistry lab, a large multi-use lab, prep stations, safety & eye wash stations and storage for science equipment. The entire building will also double as a FEMA Shelter providing safety throughout.
It is the second FEMA shelter building on the school grounds. The first was the kindergarten building that was opened late last year.
Grades six through twelve will be utilizing the building for various research projects, science experiments and additional lessons. Reliable and abundant security was one of the improvements made when constructing the new building. Each door has card reader access and various security cameras recording all movement.
