The new 4,000 square foot Thlopthlocco Tribal Town community building was officially opened Friday afternoon.
Members of the tribal town board along with tribal officers cut the ribbon for the new building located just north of I-40 on US 62.
Work started on the building following a 2014 Housing and Urban Development grant as well as an Indian Community Development Block Grant.
The building is equipped with a teaching kitchen for hosting healthy choices cooking and traditional cooking classes. The Tribe will host an array of classes in the new building ranging from Creek language classes to basket weaving classes.
The Community Building will house several family services. These services include assistance for the elderly, higher education, high school senior and school clothing, emergency, utility, medical, legal and motor fuel assistance. In addition to the family services, the Historical Preservation office, the environmental department and the housing department will also be housed in the community building. These departments and services benefit Tribal Members and Native Americans.
