The Henryetta high school boys and girls who thrilled fans this past year were honored Thursday night.
sanford awardHHS senior Brice Sanford received the Brandon Burlsworth character award. The award recognizes athletes who show hard work and determination.
Head football coach Darin Johnson said two Knights will be playing in the Eufaula All-Star football classic May 20. Set to appear in the 7 p.m. game will be Rhett Williams and Walker Kinslow.
He told the students and parents the Knights crowned Rhett Williams as state champion power lifter this year. Williams had also been named district offensive lineman of the year.
Other HHS powerlifters qualifying for state included Kobe Johnson, Blake VanMeter and Jordon Proctor.
The HHS swim team sent two girls to the state meet. Charee Graham finished third while Caprice Graham took sixth and seventh.
In baseball, seniors Hunter Thomas and Kalil Lewis along with junior Seth Munoz, received the leadership award. Most improved went to Jared Montgomery and Jim Bynyard. Bo Adams was given the perseverance award.
Cheerleader sponsor Tracy Sontag praised the girls saying many of the cheerleaders are participants in other sports as well as being cheerleaders. “We support all sports and the girls start their season again in a few weeks.”
Assistant tennis coach Sherry Freeman said the Lady Knights will be playing this weekend at the state tournament. “We have a real chance to win state,” she said talking about the school qualifying for al four positions with both 1 and 2 singles and 1 and 2 doubles.
The Lady Knights have Brittany Elam qualified for the state meet at Catoosa. She will be competing in the pole vault.
At the conclusion of the dinner, superintendent Dwayne Noble presented Rick Duncan with a plaque for his dedication to Henryetta athletics.
