memorial dayThe effort to honor fallen servicemen and women starts this Saturday when American flags are placed at the cemetery.
VFW Post 539 commander Bill Goodner said some 2,000 flags will be placed next to the markers at Westlawn cemetery starting at 9 a.m.
“We will have VFW post members and Boy Scouts helping but we can always use more volunteers,” he said Wednesday.
The annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Westlawn Monday morning at 11. At that time, wreaths will be placed on the monument honoring those killed overseas but whose bodies were never returned.
“Everyone is encouraged to attend as we pay tribute to our fellow citizens who were killed in combat,” he added.
