tank tnSparks were flying as emolitiion crews cut into the steel million-gallon water tank Thursday morning. Within a couple of hours after work started, just a few pieces of the tank wall were still standing. The metal was being hauled off and the site prepared for a new, pre-stressed concrete structure.
The old steel water tank has been out of service for some three years after it was found to be structurally weakened by years of operation.
This meant the tank had to be cleared away in order to be replaced by a stressed-concrete structure. That construction is expected to start within a month.
