Members of the Henryetta Economic Development Authority declined to act on a request for the Ki Bois Area Transit System (KATS) Monday.
kats logoThe transportation system that serves Henryetta as well as 12 other counties, was asking for $10,000. That money would be used to match other funds for a vehicle and help with other operations.
Representing KATS, Daphne Long said KATS has 10 people working in Henryetta and operates nine wheelchair-accessible vehicles within the city limits.
She said drivers covered 193,952 miles this past year. Those trips included medical appointments, going to and from work, shopping and education.
KATS charges $1 per person per trip within the city limit then has a charge of $1.30 per mile outside the city limits.
“I remember when we had taxi cabs in Henryetta and it would cost $3 to $4 to ride to town,” said HEDA member Jim Beymer. He went on to say KATS is an, “affordable way for them to shop.”
“It looks like somebody other than us could help,” said HEDA member Ron McAfee.
“This is is great thing for city. If i saw they were struggling I would be all for it. Right now we have so many other things we are obligated to.”
Beymer made the motion to provide the $10,000 but the issue did not receive any support and died for lack of a second.
