crash beamThe Wilson road exit from US 75 is closed after a large "crash beam" was struck and knocked down onto the roadway around 11 p.m. Friday night.
According to Oikmulgee County Emergency Management director Tim Creighton, the beam was snagged by a vehicle going west on Conifer Road.
He said the vehicle may have been caused by a camper trailer or motor home. The top of the vehicle scraped along the bottom of the overpass then struck the beam pulling it down. That vehicle left the scene following the accident.
"Whoever did it knows he had an accident," Creighton said. "He either has a lot of damage to his truck or the trailer."
The beams that support the Burlington Northern railway tracks were not damaged. "We put a train over it shortly after the accident," Creighton said.
No time has been given when the roadway will reopen.
