June ended with Mother Nature's fireworks Friday night as one of the hardest thunderstorms in recent weeks blew through the area.
down limbLightning lit up the sky and the thunder boomed across Henryetta and the area waccompanied by high winds that shredded leaves and even blew down large trees.
Much of the damage was restricted to the northeast side of Henryetta and a large part of Dewar.
Students at Dewar First Baptist Church were wrapping up their Vacation Bible School with a program that had just started when the lights went out. That forced the children to sing a couple of songs illuminated by the dozens of cell phone lights from the audience.
The wind knocked out power to most of Dewar for several hours when branches were blown into the power lines causing the large circuit breakers to trip off.
In Henryetta, straight winds were responsible for some large branches to be broken off trees. One fell across a driveway keeping the residents from leaving their garage. Next door to that, a tree was uprooted and fell into the front porch of a house.
Several aluminum trampolines could be seen turned upside down and blown hundreds of feet from their homes.
