A 30-minute executive session Monday night resulted in the Henryetta school board hiring Kirk Ruth as a special education teacher but failing to make a selection for high school principal.
The two jobs were on the agenda but board members tabled action for the principal’s spot. That vacancy was left after former principal Scott Bein resigned late last month. No date was given when the board would meet again to fire a principal.
School superintendent Dwayne Noble told the board paving work on the gymnasium parking lot should start within the next couple of weeks. He said work will be finished by the time school starts next month. “We are talking with the county about repaving the road back to the tennis courts,” he said. “If we can get it and come up to the two entrances in the parking lot, it will make the gym stand out.”
Band director Alan Montgomery showed board members the new band uniforms. He held up a black and gold striped tunic explaining the band logo would be on the upper right breast.
“This was the original prototype and I told them this was what we wanted,” Montgomery said. Still being discussed will be the final design of the headgear.
Board members and school officials are working to add banners recognizing school athletics as well as scholars at the gymnasium. “When we got the trophy cases installed, we didn’t look further,” said board member Brandi Brown.
