Dirk Walden will be the new Henryetta high school principal when classes start next month.
At a special meeting Tuesday morning, board members hired the former Preston Pirates coach and history teacher.
Walden, 43, had coached the Pirates to a class A state basketball title and pocketed three 2A state runner up finishes. He had been at Preston for the past nine years.
Prior to coaching at Preston, he had been at Canadian and Achille.
The board also hired Jeannie parker as a cafeteria worker and Gary Greenfield as maintenance custodian.
Board members accepted resignations from Tiffany Padgett, Alissa Griffin, Rick Duncan and Mary Putman.
The school lunch policy that has been in place for a number of years was reviewed by the board. Bertha McGowin, lunch  head, said the policy is being publicized to comply with state requirements. She said there were no changes to the policy. The policy will be sent out with students when the new school year starts.
She said no elementary student is ever denied a meal because of inability to pay for the lunch.
