There are a lot of sore necks around Henryetta and the area Monday afternoon as evryone stared at the eclipse.
Even though the moon's shadow failed to completely cover the sun here, the heavenly occurrence was still appreciated.
eclipsePeople were using the eclipse glasses while others had their welding hoods and homemade viewing boxes to watch the event.
Charles Lewallen went a little more high tech with his telescope set up near the intersection of Fifth and Trudgeon. He was sharing the moment with anyone who stopped by giving one and all a peek at something that won't be back in the area again for another seven years.
He said he is an amateur astronomer and wanted to let everyone have fun. That included Thehenreyttan.com with the sun about 80 percent obscured by the moon. Just as an experiment, the video camer was set on the lens of the telescope and, while it didn't provide a perfect view, it still had enough of an image to record.
During the height of the eclipse here, some people reported seeing it through the shadow of tree leaves on a concrete surface. Henryetta didn't go completely dark but a definite darkening effect could be seen.
