Some Okmulgee County voters will be getting a letter from the state election board this month.
Every two years address confirmation forms are sent out to allow voters to verify their current address.
Okmulgee County election board secretary Ashley Carnes said anyone receiving the notice should fill it out and return it to the state. “You can use the Online Voter Tool at www.elections.ok.gov. enter your information into the tool, and when the page with your voter information opens, find the "Voter Confirmation" section,” she said. Just enter the 11-digit number above your name and address on the address confirmation mailing and then follow the instructions on the screen. If you verify your address using the Online Voter Tool, you do not need to mail the return card included in the mailing.”
law, a voter's registration will become inactive if the address is not confirmed by mail or online within 60 days. The law requires the Election Board to cancel the voter registration of an inactive voter who (1) does not initiate a voter registration change or (2) does not vote in an election conducted by a county election board by the date of the second General Election for federal office following the date of the confirmation mailing.
Those confirmation notices are sent to people who have not voted since the 2014 general election, people who have the same last name, first initial, and birth date as another voter in the state, a first-class mailing sent to voter since January 1, 2015, was returned by the post office as undeliverable. Also if they have surrendered their Oklahoma drivers license in another state or have registered to vote in another state.
