The traffic lights in downtown Henryetta will be getting some work.
Tuesday night, city council members approved $36,256 to upgrade the system that will replace timing controls said to be obsolete.
“We can’t get parts because the system is so old,” said mayor Jennifer Clason. Those worn-out controls are said to be causing problems with timing the light changes.
No date was given for work to start.
Duringt he council meeting, it was noted the new million-gallon water tank east of town has been erected. This past week, DN Tanks placed the 30-foot tall, pre-stressed concrete sides around the base and have been sealing them off. Still ahead is an outer covering of concrete followed by paint and preparing the inside to receive water.
That part of the work is projected to be completed by mid-October.
The two-year-old splash pad has been closed for the winter. During the run from Memorial Day to labor Day, some 4.2 million gallons of water was used to provide an attraction for area children.
Members of the Union Sportsmen Alliance will be in Henryetta Sept. 30 to work at Nichols Park. Clason said that will include replacing a roof on the shelter house on the east side of the park and installation of a fishing dock. That dock is going to be located on the east side of the lake instead of next to the dam. “They say that’s where the fish are,” she said. Alliance members will remove the dilapidated wooden dock next to the dam during the day’s work. “If we get enough volunteers, the alliance will also sandblast the graffiti from the other buildings.”
