Vintage motorcycles will be racing in Henryetta again next year.
The city council gave approval for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) to hold a three-day event next September.
Some 1,000 vintage motorcycle owners were racing at Nichols Park late last month and were credited for making that a well-received event.
“They left the park in pristine shape,” said mayor Jennifer Clason Tuesday night. “They spent four days cleaning the park after the race. It was very visitor-friendly,” she added. The racing did not interfere with the Union Sportsmen Alliance work that was going on at the park at the same time.
Trampas and Sherri Parker were the organizers and donated $1,000 to Henryetta parks. “They want to increase that every year,” Clason added.
“What a great idea,” said councilmember Shannon Scott. He was told this was the first time something like this was held. “There was nothing like this before the council approved the H.O.T.T. trails,” Clason told him.
The race in 2018 will be held Sept. 28, 29 and 30.
Council members also gave approval for Tristan Demmitt, Jennifer Corbin and Genny Mooney to hold a free community Christmas dinner Dec. 22.
This will be the second dinner. “Last year it was a huge turnout,” Clason said. “They did a tremendous job.” Santa Claus will be making an appearance for the dinner.
Also approved was a payment of $6,115 to Fatz City Customs for work at the Henryetta tennis courts. That will be reimbursed by the Henryetta Economic Development Authority.
