EDHC Henryetta Students and Mrs. Willis

Students from Henryetta High School and Middle School participated in the Eastern District Honor Choir Oct. 17, 2017 in Muskogee. Karen Willis, Choral Director for both schools, took 14 students, who had undergone an audition process and were selected to join the best singers in the Eastern District of Oklahoma to form three different choirs.
Local auditions were held for the sixth graders. Seventeen students auditioned for the six spots available to our students. The students selected were Caveryn Foster, Aurora Grunewald, Vicki Faulkner, Grace Lovell, Lorena Martinez, and Phoenix McKay.
Students in grades 7-12 had to undergo auditions at Muskogee High School alongside students from other schools all over the district. For this audition, they had to learn specific songs and sing portions behind a screen for judges who scored them on a variety of musical elements. Henryetta students who sang in the junior high choir included eighth graders Grant Holder and Dalton Pemberton and ninth graders Leia Howton and Tyler Sisson. The high school choir included Henryetta junior Emma Sontag and seniors MaKayla Baxter, Taylor Graffman, and Zach Thomas.
MaKayla Baxter, Taylor Graffman, and Zach Thomas were honored for seven years of being accepted into the Eastern District Honor Choir. They were presented with medals by their director, Mrs. Willis. There were only seven seniors in the district to receive this acknowledgment.
Next Saturday, Henryetta Choir students will travel to McAlester to begin a three step audition process for admittance into the Oklahoma All State Honor Choir.
