Residents at Lake Drive Care and rehab Center in Henryetta prepared for disaster Friday morning.
The nursing home is bounded on two sides by Coal Creek and can be surrounded by water when the town receives a major downpour.
That happened in 2011 causing the facility to evacuate.
A simulation using the same scenario played out Friday morning with staff members making sure residents were taken to a place of safety.
The drill called for Okmulgee County Emergency Services personnel and Henryetta fire department crews to be on the scene to account for each resident as well as their medicines and individual records.
Originally, the drill called for them to go to the civic center but, in a twist, the residents had to be taken by bus to the fire department after the simulated disaster included an electrical failure at city hall.
“We are preparing for everything,” said fire chief David Bullard. “This went off without a hitch and those participating in the drill were removed from the nursing facility without any problems,” he said.
