Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason was awarded a protection order against Howard “Buck” Sheward that will be in force for the next five years.
The protection order was made official Wednesday morning by district judge Kenneth Adair.
She received a temporary protection order Oct. 28 following an early-morning incident involving Clason and Sheward at a gym in Henryetta.
During her testimony Tuesday afternoon, Clason said she was fearful that Sheward would cause her harm when he came to the gym where she was working out. She said she ran to her pickup and was trying to call 9-1-1 but her phone was locked.
The order says Sheward is, “a credible threat to the physical safety,” and prohibits him from possessing any firearms or ammunition until Nov. 8, 2022. Deputies from the Okmulgee County sheriff’s office were sent to confiscate his weapons Wednesday morning. Those weapons and ammunition will be returned once he undergoes a comprehensive psychological evaluation.
He is also banned from having any contact with Clason by phone, mail or even email. Sheward was ordered to stay away from Clason’s home as well as Fountain View Manor nursing home.
If he violates any of those provisions, Sheward could be facing a $1,000 fine and/or one year in the county jail. In the event of any injury to Clason, he could be fined $5,000 as well as up to a year in jail.
Sheward ws also ordered to pay court costs and Clason's attorney fees.
