As if December isn’t busy enough, now local residents get to think about running for school board positions and two spots on the Okmulgee city council.
The filing period opens Dec. 4 and will run through Dec. 6. Okmulgee County election board secretary Ashley Carnes said candidates can file in her office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Voting for both the school board and council seats will be held Feb. 13, 2018.
“If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in a run-off election Tuesday, April 3,” she said.

City of Okmulgee: Councilmember Ward 3
City of Okmulgee: Councilmember Ward 4
Beggs Public School District: Office No. 3
Beggs Public School District: Office No. 2 (unexpired)
Dewar Public School District: Office No. 3
Henryetta Public School District: Office No. 3
Morris Public School District: Office No. 3
Okmulgee Public School District: Office No. 3
Preston Public School District: Office No. 3
Schulter Public School District: Office No. 3
Twin Hills Public School District: Office No. 2
Wilson Public School District: Office No. 3
Green Country Technology Center School District: Office No. 1
Candidates may pick up Declaration of Candidacy forms from the Okmulgee County Election Board Office or may download them from the State Election Board’s website.
