cop fire
What started out as a traditional Thanksgiving dinner turned into tragedy for Henryetta police officer Theran Richards Thursday.
He and his wife and children were getting ready to eat when his son told him the garage was on fire. That blaze swept through the garage and spread to their mobile home within minutes forcing the family to abandon everything and flee to safety.
They were unable to salvage anything from the home. In additon to losing their personal belongings, all of the family's vehicles, including Richards' patrol car, were destroyed in the fire. Also destroyed were a number of toys that had been donated to give to children through the Shriners organization.
This is the latest in a series of catastrophies that have struck Richards in recent years. Six years ago his mother died as the result of a house fire. Three years ago, his son, Cody Parrick, was one of the two men who died at Lake Eufaula returning from Rocklahoma.
A plea for help has gone out with an overwhelming response from individuals and organizations. Clothing sizes being sought are:

Girls 5T
Boys size 6
Boys size 8-10
Boys 12-14
Men's medium and large shirts and size 32 pants and 34x32 pants
Women's large shirts and size 8-10 pants.
Donations can be taken to the Henryetta or Okmulgee police departments.
