The free throw line made the difference Tuesday night as the Knights opened their basketball season.
Henryetta’s boys missed five out of 13 tries from the charity line to fall behind the Bristow pirates 64-58 by game’s end.
bristowThe Lady Knights had one of their best games in the past two years even though they lost 55-31 in the opening contest at Bristow.
Henryetta’s girls got on the board first when Kaylie Hamric hit a three pointer in the opening minutes of the game. That was one of two three pointers she would have in the game.
Bristow followed that up to eventually take a 20-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The HHS girls added another nine points to their total in the second quarter while allowing Bristow to only get six for a 25-19 difference at the half.
For the next two periods, the Lady Knights struggled picking up six in the third and seven in the fourth for the fian tally. Bristow added ten and 19 points in those final periods.
Hamric was the leading scorer for the Lady Knights with seven while Bayleigh Nye and Kim Fowler each had five. Bridget Williams contributed four, Astlyn Green and Danielle Lasarge had three each with Katie Williamson and Kim Hage each adding two.
In the boys game, Bristow jumped off to a 23-15 lead at the end of the first quarter but Henryetta narrowed the gap at the half to trail by five, 32-27.boys bristow
Both teams kept up the pace in the third then the Knights ran into trouble at the foul line.
Only three points separated the two teams with time running out but Henryetta could not find the mark from the free throw line.
Henryetta shot eight free throws and missed five of them.
Bristow went to the line ten times and completed four but that was enough to make the difference in the final tally.
Fife led the Henryetta scoring with 22 points followed by Drew Brown with 17. Micah Lowe and Colten Wion each had six with Jordan Knox and Pepper Logan adding four each.
The Knights travel to Haskell Friday night. Next Tuesday, they host Stigler then stay at home Dec. 12 with a game against Oktaha.
