Ice-covered pavement is believed to be the cause of a deadly crash around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jilena Thrailkill, Okmulgee, was going south on SH 52 about two miles south of Morris when her car went off the roadway and struck a stop sign. The vehicle then hit a dry creek bed before coming to rest in a fence. She was taken to the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The icy weather caused a number of accidents around this part of the state. ice crash
A Henryetta police dispatcher, Deana Hart, was on her way home south of town when her SUV hit some ice and rolled into a ditch. She received minor injuries in the crash.
North of Henryetta, a semi pulling a flatbed trailer crashed into the cable barrier snarling northbound traffic near the Wilson Road exit.
About the same time, a semi jackknifed on Interstate 40 about ten miles west of Henryetta in Okfuskee County. That blocked eastbound traffic for nearly two hours.
The quick-moving storm caused area schools to cancel classes Wednesday and postponed the Henryetta basketball queen coronation until Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
