The Oklahoma Professional Economic Development Council has named Rep. Scott Fetgatter, R-Okmulgee, as the 2018 OEDC Legislative Advocate of the Year.
OEDC Scott FetgatterThe advocate of the year award is presented to a state representative and a state senator who promotes economic development throughout the state.
“Economic development officials affect growth throughout our state. It is important for lawmakers to understand that the policy decisions they make have a profound impact for economic development at the local level,” said State Chamber Executive Vice President of Government & Political Affairs, Mike Jackson.
Fetgatter, a small business owner and advocate for rural Oklahoma economies, was thankful for the recognition.
“I initially decided to run for office because I thought rural Oklahoma, especially District 16, needed an advocate,” Fetgatter said. “Since being sworn into office, I have worked hard to be that advocate. It is not always easy, and there is still plenty of work to do. Until Oklahoma helps low wage earners in rural areas raise up to mid-level wage earners through good economic development policy, we will never truly fix our state's problems.
“I appreciate this recognition, and even more so, I appreciate the support that the OPEDC has provided over the last year.”
