This weekend former Henryettan Danny Lovell will be hitting the national golf stage.
He will be competing in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship golf tournament at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla. May 19 through 23.
lovel wifeA 1997 HHS graduate, Lovell played tennis for the Knights and was a member of the state champion tennis team. He attended Oklahoma Christian University on a tennis scholarship but during his first semester decided to switch to golf and “walked on” to the Men’s Golf Team. During both his Junior and Senior years at OCC he qualified as All-American in golf. He has the distinction to be the only athlete in any sport at Oklahoma Christian who has earned the status of All-American while starting the sport as a “walk on” player.
Lovell now lives in Dallas with his wife Amber, the former Ladies Golf Coach at North Texas University where he is a partner at Rainier Capital Management. They met during his two years playing on the PGA golf tour after college. In May, 2018, Danny and Amber won the Championship Couples Tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Course in Carmel, Calif., in a three-day tournament which included 96 couples. He has a standing yearly invitation from Clint Eastwood to play in his prestigious golf tournament in Carmel called “The Clint” around Memorial Day. His team has won the tournament for the last several years. He is a member of the Preston Trail Golf Club where he is presently the club champion and claims his most memorable partner there has been the former President, George W. Bush.
The 2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship’s final match on Monday, May 21, will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
