New DAR Officers

By Rebecca Hold
Okemah DAR Chapter Regent
and Publicity Chairman
Members Gene Meredith, Carol Musick, and Judith Drennan were the hostesses for the May 15 meeting of the Okemah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. The tables were patriotically decorated to commemorate Memorial Day with Uncle Sam hats and a musical centerpiece that played the National Anthem.
After Regent Velda Jo Bradley led the opening ritual, flag salute, and the National Anthem, member June Yahola gave a most interesting program about the writing of the American Creed by William Tyler Page.
The creed reads:
"I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people by the people, for the people, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a Republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my Country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies."
More about this wonderful American document is described on this web page, http://www.usflag.org/american.creed.html
Regent Bradley welcomed guests, Kiamichi District Director Ruth Ann Taylor of the Chimney Hill Chapter in Ada, Tommie Beddow also of the Chimney Hill Chapter, Donna Barnes, and prospective member Carla Schooling.
