Citing health reasons, Henryetta city councilman Bill Goodner said he is resigning that post effective June 7.
Goodner was elected as the At Large council member in April, 2017. That was his second time on the council.
He said a series of medical tests resulted in doctors recommending he, “make my life as stress-free as possible. It’s been an honor and privilege to have served the citizens of Henryetta, and I wish you all every success in the future.”
Goodner said he will remain as commander of the Henryetta VFW post. “Its therapeutic for me helping other veterans,” Goodner said Friday.
“Its very disheartening to learn of my fellow council member having heart problems as well as his resignation,” said mayor Jennifer Clason. “With all the ideas he has to offer, I am sure he will remain actively helping our community to grow.”
Goodner was instrumental in updating the veterans plaque located on the doughboy statue as well as moving the VFW headquarters from its large, hard to manage building on Frisco Avenue to the former health department building next to the football field.
