Former Henryetta high school tennis coach and HHS graduate Mark Milligan is going to be honored Saturday at Southeastern State University in Durant.
Milligan will be inducted into the SOSU Hall of Fame class of 2018 in ceremonies at noon at the Visual Performance Arts Center on the university campus.milligan crop
He joined the Savage tennis program as Oklahoma's top-ranked junior player and would win a pair of Oklahoma Collegiate Conference doubles championships and twice finished as OCC singles runner-up. He helped guide his teams to OCC team championships in each of his four seasons.
He was a member of the university’s tennis team from 1968 to 1972. During his time there he was the NAIA All-American in 1971, conference doubles champion in 1971 and NAIA All-American conference doubles champ in 1972. He also led the Savages to two NAIA National Team Runner-up finishes.
Milligan continued his tennis success as a coach, taking over as the coach at Ardmore high school in 1973 and making stops at high schools in Muskogee, Henryetta, Altus, and McAlester over his 30 year high school coaching career that included 12 all-state athletes and 11 individual state champions while adding one team state title and one team state runner-up. In 2018 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
