Oliver Robert (Rob) Barris, III died 6, 2018 in Tulsa. He was born Aug. 7, 1957 to Oliver Robert Barris Jr and Norma Barris (Wiggs). He was very proud to have been born and raised in Okmulgee and spent his adult life serving the community. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1975, the University of Oklahoma in 1979 with a degree in Political Science and then went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from OU in 1982.
While at OU he met the love of his life, Holly (Rose). They were married in Tulsa Aug. 7, 1982. His entire career was spent working for the people of Oklahoma as a gifted and dedicated prosecutor. He spent most of his career in the District 25 District Attorney's Office representing the people of Okmulgee and McIntosh counties. During his career he successfully prosecuted numerous high-profile cases. Twice he was chosen by his peers as Outstanding Prosecutor in the state of Oklahoma. He was unopposed for three terms as District Attorney of District 25.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Okmulgee where he taught Sunday school for 28 years. Rob proudly served as a Gideon. H
He is survived by his wife Holly, of the home; a daughter; Jennifer and husband Jeremiah, of Kiefer, his sister-in-law Carol Brumbaugh, brother-in-law George Rose and wife Karen, and his mother-in-law Margaret Rose Guckes; niece Jill Deutscher and husband Brad; nephew Jeff Stephens and wife Teresa; niece Georgianne Tokarcik and husband Troy; nephew Bradley Rose and wife Eden and great-nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents Bob and Norma Barris, his brother-in-law Bill Brumbaugh, and son Tyler.
The family will be greeting friends and colleagues from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday October 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 311 West 5th Street in Okmulgee. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Okmulgee Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Gideon's International.
