Henryetta students were walking before daylight Wednesday morning as they participated in the nationwide Walk to School Day event.
The event started in 1997 as an effort to build awareness for the need for walkable communities in the US. Since then it has grown globally with more than 40 countries celebrating it.
Students in Henryetta started at St. Michael's church and, with a police and fire escort, walked the half-dozen blocks to their schools. Teachers, administrators and parents walk with the students.
