Henryetta school board members held their November meeting a few days late Friday morning. Originally set for Nov. 12, the meeting was postponed due to the threat of weather and, because of open meeting posting requirements could not be held until Friday.
Only three members were present at the Friday session: James Williams, Jeanie Duncan and Casey Jones. Because a quorum could not be seated that were present for earlier meetings, the board was unable to approve minutes from the August, September and October regular meetings.nov board
Looking over a large stack of fundraising requests from clubs and organizations, the board balked at approving the HHS junior class request to make telephone calls soliciting donations for the annual prom. That request was not approved while the rest were given the green light.
Superintendent Dwayne Noble suggested the board pay Liz Bealko $2,000 for work on the spring musical, “Zombie Prom.” That money was coming from the Public Service Company rebate returned to the school. “We did that last year when our rebate was $3,000,” he said. An additional $1,000 would be paid to her if money is available this spring.
He also told the board that high school principal Kelly Furer wants to start a Miss Henryetta pageant. “That would give the girls the opportunity to compete in other pageants going up tot he state level,” he pointed out. No further details were available about the pageant.
In personnel action, the board accepted a resignation letter from Jessica Sneed who said she was leaving her teacher’s aide position to go back to school.
Staci Sadler was hired as a para professional and Courtney Lollis as a pre-k teacher’s assistant.
Board members adopted a resolution calling for a Feb. 12, 2019 school board election. The seat now held by Casey Jones will be coming up for election. Filing starts in December.
HHS athletic director Dutch Vandenborn said the sports scene is “gearing up for basketball and wrestling.” Wrestlers will host two home duals Nov. 27 and 29 and the high school basketball teams open at Stigler Nov. 29.
He said he has a group of people looking at ways to get, “more flair” in the high school gym. “We want to make it look more inviting.”
At the first high school basketball game, a table is going to be set up to sell reserved seats.
he pointed out there are 20 boys and 15 girls on the Knight basketball teams.
